SONGS TO DRIVE BY - Owner Driver Magazine - 11th March 2005

Singer/songwriter Dale Duncan is recording a tribute album to fallen truckies.

DALE DUNCAN is revved up and ready to rock and has good reason to be jumping out of his socks. The Tamworth singer/songwriter has announced plans to record his debut album at the renowned Top Cat Studios, Alstonville in April and although there's still a month's wait, more than 2,500 copies of the CD have been ordered. Titled "A Trucker's Life" the album will feature 10 originally penned and co-written tracks and is a tribute to the dedicated truck drivers who have lost their lives on the road. Dale will be heading to the studio with his band Santa Fe, who enjoys a strong following throughout the north-west. The band, who have been playing together for five years, comprises of Paul Harris on lead guitar, Steve Crane on rhythm guitar, Bill Baldwin on bass and Paul Swan on drums. Dale says he was approached to record the album at the recent Tamworth Truck driver's memorial where he has performed for the last three services. "At the memorial last year, I performed one of my original songs 'Guardian Angel' to about 400 people," he explains.

"Everyone gave the song the thumbs up, there was such an overwhelming response to the song and many of those attending the memorial wanted to buy the CD on the spot, sadly I didn't have one available. "Not long after that I was approached by the clubs coordinator, Rick Lay, to record an album dedicated to the trucking industry. "I jumped at the opportunity.

Dale says sales from the 10 track CD would go back to the Tamworth Truck memorial to help those families who had lost love ones carrying out their duties on the road. "Col Finley will be making a special trip to Tamworth later this month where he will sit down with me and write a couple of tracks for the album," Dale says. "I'm pretty excited about this project and things are going really well leading up to us heading to the studio. "We've already got 2,500 copies on back order and we haven't even released it as yet, we're still putting the finishing touches to it before we go to the studio next month". Rick Lay is just as excited as Dale and the band, with one of the tracks written by him especially for the Memorial service. Rick says he is no songwriter but this track came easy to him, as he has always felt a song dedicated to the mates he has lost in the industry would be appropriate. Titled "Every Year In October", Rick has excelled in hitting on a tune with lyrics everyone that has lost a love one can identify with.
