KING OF THE ROAD by Fiona Bradberry

Dale Duncan is on cloud nine and he should be. He has just laid the finishing touches on his debt album A Trucker's Life. Dale has just come back from Sydney where his album was mastered by Steve Smart at Studios 301, the same guy who has mastered albums for Adam Harvey, Melinda Schneider, Beccy Cole and Col Finley just to name a few. In fact Steve Smart's words to Dale were: "your on a winner here, you're a great songwriter, who writes with strong lyrics".

In April this year the Tamworth singer/ songwriter took his band Santa Fe featuring Paul Harris (lead guitar), Steve Crane (rhythm guitar), Bill Baldwin (bass guitar) and Paul Swan (drums) to Top Cat Recording Studios Alstonville NSW, to record his debut album and what an album it turned out to be.

Titled A Trucker's Life, this album has nothing to prove, nothing to do with fashions or radio play or anything else except just making and playing great country music.

There's nothing fancy here, in fact half of the album is mid paced, a couple of blue grass numbers, but great stories, great lyrics, their just great songs.

"All the songs on the album are basically a story and I wrote them about my life. Like everyone else I've had some pretty rough times and I've had some great touching moments and my way to express my feelings about life is writing them down on paper" Dale said.

Favourites here are Three Words Daddy, with a nice violin intro and gently rolling delivery, a bit in the DON WILLIAMS tradition, and The Ghost Of Gully Creek, a hardwood floor stomper.

Dale was approached to record the album in October 2004 by the then President of the Tamworth Truck Drivers Memorial. "I had performed at the Tamworth Truck Drivers Memorial held every year in October and I performed one of my original songs Three Words Daddy to about 400 people" Dale said.

"Everyone gave the song the thumbs up. There was such an overwhelming response to the song that many of those attending the memorial wanted to buy my CD, and I didn't have one.

Not long after the memorial, I was approached by the then president and co-ordinator of the Truck Drivers Association Memorial, Rick Lay to record an album dedicated to the truck driver's industry. I jumped at the opportunity".

Dale then put pen to paper and started writing more songs for the album. Long time friend and big time country artist Col Finley travelled down from Brisbane to Co-write two of the songs The Ghost Of Gully Creek and If The Truckies Stop. Other songs on the album include A Trucker's Life, My On The Road Beauty Queen, Marry Me, Miracle Girl and Do You Wanna Be.

Proceeds from the sale of the album will go into the Two Tee's Truck Drivers Memorial Fund to help those families who have lost loved ones during their duties on the road.

"I'm pretty excited about this project and things are going really going well leading up to the launch of the album which is to be held on the 12 August 2005 at "The Pub in Tamworth. "I already have 3,500 copies of the album on back order and I haven't even released it yet".

If you would like a copy of A Trucker's Life, send a cheque or money order for a total of $15.00 to: "Two Tee's Memorial Fund", PO Box 47 Westdale NSW 2340. Not only will you be receiving a great Country Truckin' album but you will be helping families from within the trucking industry.

"There's something very special about this CD. This is the best Country album I've heard for a while. All nine songs have the word "hit" written all over them" - Phil Hastings HMV music.
